Manual Traffic Surveys / Pedestrian Counts
The application of the appropriate technology / technique is critical to the survey output. It is a known fact that the use of clickerboards in survey activities can lead to inaccurate survey results, therefore TTM employ a number of advanced techniques for the conduct of observational survey activities. Our extensive experience in survey design and application of the appropriate technology is one of the strengths of TTM’s relationship with our clients. The following techniques are utilised in manual observation surveys:
- TTM PDR Video Camera System
- T40 Data Deck
- Miovision Video System
Travel time surveys
All surveys are undertaken using GPS equipment and associated software with travel time determined from recording the position of the survey vehicle at specified increments. This survey methodology requires only one person per survey vehicle which enables travel time surveys to be undertaken in a cost efficient way.
Data provided from this methodology is of a very high quality and is readily checked and verified after completion of the survey. All speed statistics between node points and for the entire trip is available from GPS travel time surveys including:
- Time passing each node point and total trip time
- Accurate section distance
- Average speed between each node point and for entire trip
- Speed statistics for whole survey period
- Precise delay information including location and duration of delay
Origin-Destination and Traffic Number Plate Surveys
TTM Data is experienced at undertaking origin-destination surveys of various scales and scope ranging from tracking of vehicles through residential area to large-scale vehicle movements between major arterial roads / motorways.
Recorded data is analysed and presented in MS Excel format allowing for integration into other reporting software.
Car Park Surveys – Demand and Duration
TTM have undertaken parking demand and / or duration surveys at numerous developments including surveys of significant scale at major shopping centres, regional town centres and CBD car parks. Our knowledge of this type of project enables TTM to customise the survey design to ensure project objectives are met and ensures that the estimate of fees is both accurate and comprehensive.
Public Transport Surveys (bus, rail and ferry surveys)
TTM has undertaken significant studies involving public transport facilities such as passenger load counts on the suburban rail network. TTM has experience in surveys on all modes of public transport including buses, trains and ferries. Counts undertaken include passenger load counts, questionnaire surveys, travel time surveys and origin-destination interviews.
Other Traffic and Transport Related Survey Competencies
TTM have undertaken many specialist transport-related surveys based on needs of a specific project. A sample of these are listed below:
- Gap acceptance and saturation flow surveys
- Parking interview surveys within a heavily trafficked tourist precinct
- Public carpark trip purpose surveys
- People counter verification surveys
- Parks visitation monitoring
- Automatic vehicle surveys for complex sites (>2 lanes per carriageway)
Automated Traffic Surveys – Classification and Speed
TTM has comprehensive experience in the conduct of automatic counts in all situations and are experienced operators of the Metrocount road side units and analysis software. Surveys undertaken include:
- Local street speed and volume surveys
- Development accesses and other slow-moving traffic environments
- Motorways and arterial roads
TTM is proactive in its approach to occupational health and safety procedures during placement and retrieval of equipment and consider the deployment of an appropriate traffic management plan to each site of paramount importance.
